Great Expectations: An Occupations Primer

The “Great Expectations: An Occupations Primer” introduces various occupations such as teacher, tailor, blacksmith, merchant, lawyer, and even companion and gentleman. While these are pertinent to Charles Dickens’ classic novel, this book is simply a way to heavily tone it down for kids. As the book’s illustrator Alison Oliver puts it, “Dickens created very colorful characters, from a convict to a teacher and an heiress. And Victorian fashion is very specific and a good indicator of what a character does, so it was a very important part of designing and illustrating our “Occupations Primer.” This book definitely deserves a space in a nursery library.
